Alberto Balocco, 53, owner and CEO of the famous confectionery industry, died together with his friend Davide Vigo, 55: both were struck by lightning while trying to reach the top of Assietta by mountain bike, among the mountains of 'Alta Val Chisone, Turin.

THE LIGHTNING - The alarm was given by a passing car driver who noticed the bodies on the dirt road a few meters from each other, near a bend. There was bad weather, but an air ambulance managed to drop, without the possibility of landing, a medical staff, who tried in vain to revive them. The prosecutor has opened a file on the incident, entrusted to the prosecutor Francesco La Rosa.

THE SECOND MOURNING - The family business, known everywhere for its panettone, is based in Fossano, Cuneo. And on July 2, the honorary president Aldo Balocco died at 91, the man who in the mid-1950s had transformed his father Francesco Antonio's pastry shop into a dessert empire, which employs 500 people and who in 2021 it has a turnover of 200 million euros. The governor of Piedmont Alberto Cirio is dismayed: “We are shocked by this sudden tragedy that strikes a friend, an entrepreneur who is a symbol of our land, who has brought Piedmont to homes all over the world. We hug each other in a very strong embrace to his family and to all his loved ones ”.
