THE STORY - These are the Terminal and Villa La Meridiana hotels in Santa Maria di Leuca and Le Sirene, the Joli Park Hotel and Club Bellavista in Gallipoli, which are now limiting themselves to welcoming tourists whose reservations had already been confirmed. Then the doors will be closed, after almost 60 years of activity: the structures have in fact been open since 1966. The general manager Attilio Caputo states that the causes are to be found in the 'disproportionate and unsustainable costs, which have totally eroded the profit margins and which make it impossible to guarantee the continuation of the activity while resorting to the opportunities offered by the credit system and the implementation of photovoltaic systems, the installation of which has not yet been authorized”. The closure has already been communicated to the prefecture of Lecce and the manager says he is “regretful of the disservice we will create for guests, partners and suppliers. I thank our collaborators, who will, alas, be the first to be penalized by the situation, and I hope that a return to normal will recreate the conditions for a reopening'.

POLITICS ARE INCISIVE - Giancarlo De Venuto, president of the Lecce section of AssoHotel, does not hide the concerns of the sector: “I invoke incisive policies not palliative methods to prevent other hotel companies from throwing in the towel. We need to react immediately, to control prices sensitively, to avoid the risk of having tourists but not having businesses to welcome them.”
