Directors Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne will be the guests of honor at the 63rd edition of the Festival dei Popoli, the international documentary film festival, to be held from 5 to 13 November in Florence. The festival will dedicate a retrospective of their films to the two directors which will culminate with a masterclass and the national premiere of Tori e Locita , seen during the Cannes Film Festival and out in Italian cinemas at the end of November, distributed by Lucky Red. - video

THE CINEMA OF THE REAL - As the artistic director of the Festival dei Popoli Alessandro Stellino explains: 'It is therefore not just a matter of paying homage to two undisputed masters of contemporary cinema, but also of highlighting the way in which they were able to indicate a new path without which there would be the documentary as we know it today. Theirs is a humanist cinema but devoid of rhetoric, cruel and poetic at the same time ”.

THE RETROSPECTIVE - It will be curated by Daniela Persico who will also moderate the public meeting with the directors scheduled for the morning of Saturday 12 November at the La Compagnia cinema. Their early documentary films and the most renowned works of fiction will be presented, as well as some films by other authors produced by the Dardenne and the Italian premiere of Tori e Locita , produced by Les Films du Fleuve, Archipel 35 and Savage Film, and distributed in Italy by Lucky Red. The film is set in present-day Belgium, it is the story of a young man and a teenager who came from Africa alone, whose only weapon against the difficult living conditions they face is their solid friendship.
