The 2023 edition presented in Milan. Seven mountain stages, seventy kilometers of time trial and the Gran Sasso in the first week: who will win? For Vincenzo Nibali, those who manage to dose their energies will prevail
For Alberto Contador the Giro d'Italia 2023, presented at the Giorgio Gaber theater in Milan, deserves a full 10. While Vincenzo Nibali, who has just retired, will be a growing competition. But detaching ourselves from the suggestions, and going into specifics, next year's race in pink will certainly be very demanding and difficult to interpret for the riders. There will be 8 stages for sprinters, three time trials for a total of 70.6 kilometers (and it is the first time in 10 years that the time trial kilometers are more than 70). then there will be 4 moving and insidious fractions and seven mountain ones. The overall difference in height will be 51,300 meters and the Cima Coppi this time will be in Switzerland, on the Gran San Bernardo Pass. Departure from Abruzzo with an individual time trial, on 6 May, on the Costa dei Trabocchi cycle path, and grand finale in Rome where the race will crown the winner after 10 laps of a street circuit, on 28 May. – Photo | video

AN ALL-ITALIAN TOUR (OR ALMOST) – After the departure from Hungary in 2022 and Israel in 2021, this year the Giro returns to Italy. The only trespassing will be in Switzerland, with the uphill finish in Crans Montana, in a fraction that will also include the Cima Coppi of this Giro: the Colle del Gran San Bernardo with its 2,469 metres. Among the most awaited stages, the Dolomitic one, from Longarone (in 2023 the 60th anniversary of the Vajont tragedy will be commemorated) to the Tre Cime di Lavaredo (182 km and 5,400 meters in altitude). A truly 'horse-killing' fraction, which in about 100 km practically encloses the entire altitude difference of the stage without any rest between one climb and another. After Arabba the Campolongo Pass is climbed followed by the Valparola Pass which leads into the 'Scala Santa' of the Dolomite climbs made up of Giau Pass (Selva di Cadore slope about 10% average), Tre Croci Pass and Tre Cime di Lavaredo with its slopes up to at 18%.
